Does it make sense to give children probiotics as a preventive measure

Only in 3 cases:

  • Diarrhea while taking antibiotics
  • In-hospital diarrhoea
  • Necrotising enterocolitis in newborns

In the case of other ailments, e.g. asthma, allergies or infant colic, there is currently no good scientific data that would prove that giving probiotics makes sense then.

It is known that good intestinal condition and the diversity of intestinal flora have a huge impact on the effective functioning of the immune system.

Therefore, daily care for the well-being of the intestines is very important. A good diet (especially avoiding processed foods), adequate sleep and avoiding chronic stress are much more important here than prophylactic administration of probiotics
